Good and efficient things to do while surfing the shaky net connection illegally procured by the means of the neighbours' wi-fi:

1. Check e-mail.
2. Send applications for my thirdsecond MA course.

Not-good, bad, terrible things to do while surfing the shaky net connection illegaly procured by the means of the neighbours' wi-fi:

1. Star Trek kink meme.

Title: Losing ground, gaining ground.
Rating: PG-13 for now.
Pairings: Jim/Bruce, Babs/Steve, Babs/Dick, Jimmy/Davika
Warnings: Shmoop, shifting POV, non-linear time progress, Noelia having been damaged by too much sun.
A/N: Fifth story in the groundverse. This part written in-between baking on the beach and driving all around Italy, so all mistakes are definitely the fault of my brain being melted. Love to hear what you think, as always. Next chapter probably on Monday, but I don't promise much, net is shifty here.

the only working internet connection in this town.

1. Venice was as fun and beautiful as I remember, and this time, didn't stink so much. As souvenirs, bought Merlin season one and Life season one. And Pathfinder. It has shirtless Karl Urban on the cover, what's a girl to do?

2. I might be plotting another story in the groundverse. Wasn't going to, it just happened. And it might have a wedding, and it might have Dick Grayson, and generally, I'm screwed, cuz it's shaping up to be *massive*.

3. I might or may not be writing a Kirk/McCoy story based on Princess Protection Program, in which Spock is a super special agent and Kirk is a princess. IDEK, okay? Blame [info]juana_a, as I do.

4. Nelly, I know I owe you a porn battle response, and it's almost done, but I can't porn and angst while there's so much sunshine, it lifts my spirits, damn it.

5. FINISHED (re)watching Star Trek TOS. moving on to the movies, and then TNG, I'm so excited yay.

6. Congrats to Pelle, on account of rocking and academic achievement.

7. Cody, have fun, and don't get killed, or something. I don't worry about the capture and slavery so much, because any captors would demand a refund. I say this with love ;D

8. Miss you guys. I'll catch up on the posts once I'm back (you are helluva prolific, did you know that?)

9. Out of battery, gotta go.

Bad day. Bad, bad, baaaad day. Mostly my fault. But I'm about to make it much, much better, with some help from Mr Karl Urban.

Karl Urban pic!spam. Dial-up heavy, I kid you not )

The problem with Writing being the last part of the Practical English exam is that after three hours of exams and enough caffeine, after I've skipped breakfast, I tend to get snarky and sarcastic and try and be funny, which I'm usually not. No, really, the only people I crack up are me, myself, and I.

So, I might have proclaimed that a kitchen knife is a kitchen knife until you stab someone with it (thank you, Danny Messer of CSI:NY for imparting that nugget of wisdom), and that no one outside of sermons and the right-wing blogosphere tells us how to use our beds.

I don't know why I saywrite those things.

I should be studying, and therefore I am procrastinating like hell. But studying cracks me up, since I'm just now reading up on what Beckett thought of dramatic conventions, and every five minutes or so, I turn to Beckett and ask 'so, what do you think?' and he just stares at me like I'm an idiot and tries to lick my face.

(No, I have not lost my mind, my dog's name is Beckett.)

Also, seen Terminator Salvation for the third time, and I'm telling you, every damn time I like the movie less. I went from liking it a lot to being meh to disliking large parts. I should stop at three, or I'll hate it, methinks. But Kate Brewster Connor is still awesome, and I'll challenge to a duel anyone who disagrees. No, really. The duel will be in Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock, and I shall win, because apparently most of the people I know can't do the Vulcan greeting with their fingers.

Speaking of Star Trek (as I constantly am, these days), this I like more the more I see of it. Of course, I hadn't yet seen the entirety of TOS (but I'm getting there), but I just completed the movie collection (bought the one with the whales and the bus stops today). So, the moment I'm done with the exams, it's more than an ep a day, I'm going on a full Trek binge.

Apart from the English&American Drama exam, I also have the Practical English exam this week, but I don't worry all that much about this one. Contrary to what you may think reading this journal, I do speak passable English when I take a moment to worry about the grammar and stuff.

Also, for [info]rysiaczek's statistics: kurwa.

Things I need to be doing:

1. Studying.

Things I don't need to be doing:

1. [info]ontd_startrek.

2. [info]st_xi_kink meme (FOURTH post omg).

3. Writing a Merlin/Arthur modern AU based on one of Lindsay Lohan's movies. Guess which one, I dare you (Arthur is a perfect Captain Fine, FYI, and Morgana has had enough of this shit. Uther doesn't do much, and I need to quit my cold medicine before it's too late. Oh, wait.)

1. I'm getting kind of dizzy and sort of cross-eyed from studying too much (ie, at all). I love my studies, and I actually like exams (yeah, I know), but there comes a moment when too much Drama (English and American, at the moment, from Shakespeare to Pinter) hurts my brain.

2. In between studying; still rewatching Star Trek TOS. After a season you stop looking at the hilariously bad costumes and effects, and start noticing the amazing awesomeness. And counting how often Kirk's shirt gets ripped open.

3. Rediscovering the joys of public transport. (Car still being fixed, should get my baby back next Thursday.) One of the drivers on my route curiously resembles Bradley James.

4. Watching Big Bang Theory makes you hungry for Chinese. Unfortunately, there's no place in my general vaccinity (and by this, I probably mean the entire freakin' country) that has decent food *and* delivers.

5. Star Trek reboot kidfic. Too much? I mean, I thought that Batman kidfic was a bad idea, and it turned out fine (I think), so...

6. On the other hand, IDEK, kidfic? When did I start to like writing kidfics?

7. One more day of this fucked up weather and I'll be very pissed. I have so many pretty summer dresses for this season, but I won't wear them until I'm sure I won't be drenched sometime during the day. I mean, what's with the rainfalls from the clear sky?

Mom: *watches the last episode of Sarah Connor Chronicles*
Mom: The ending puzzles me somehow, I hope they'll clear this up in the next episodes.
Noelia: Erm, didn't I tell you that the show's been cancelled?
Mom: Cancelled, that means no more episodes?
Noelia: Yes.
Mom: So, this was the last one?
Noelia: Yes.
Mom: ...
Mom: FUCKERS.

So, Practical English mock exam from two weeks ago went well, apparently. 100% well. I'm the only person in my year who managed that. I am gleeful and extremely disliked by my fellow students, which is a very good thing to be.

Exchange of the Week:
Noelia: *talks for fifteen minutes about Star Trek reboot, with digressions on TOS, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, and, possibly, sandwiches*
P: Hey, I'm beginning to think you're a geek.
Noelia: ... Your skills of deduction astound me.

Kid #1: Miss, Miss, I saw the Star Trek movie, and I have some questions.
Noelia: Is this a ruse to get out of revising conditionals today?
Kid #1: Erm. Yes?
Noelia: Fair enough. What questions?

Noelia: Eva, could you read this paragraph?
Darek: *starts reading*
Noelia: Darek, since when is your name Eva?
Darek: Since two days ago. I haven't told my parents yet, I'm trying to prepare them for the shock.
Noelia: ... carry on.

Eva: *draws something*
Noelia: Is it relevant to our lesson?
Eva: Probably not. It's a Mountain Lemming. It says mwuhuhuhu.
Noelia: Shouldn't it be mwahahaha?
Eva: No. Mountain Lemmings have a different dialect, where the vowels are shifted.
Noelia: Oh.

You know, I don't think I've ever been into a fandom and a pairing so popular that the fics appear faster than I can read them. I mean, I've been into popular fandoms before, but my pairings are usually rather obscure and low-profile.

I blame Kirk, he doesn't know what low-profile is. And honestly, after the first viewing, I disliked new!Kirk, but he grew on me. Like fungus.

And damn, rewatching TOS now is fun. Due to the Polish tv being stupid, I've never really watched the entire series in the right order, and it's apparently better this way, who knew, huh?

I spend a lot of time justifying the things I like to people. I think most of us in fandom do. Explaining that yes, there is something worthwile in shows called 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', and no, science fiction is not all about robots and space and explosions. And I've given up on trying to explain fanfic and slash to people outside of fandom, because it's pretty much pointless and will end in people patronising me, which will lead to a bloodshed.

But sometimes I even have to justify things I watch and like to myself. I mean, there are shows and movies that are pretty much anything I should hate, from the treatment of female characters to the sheer idiocy of the plot, and yet, I kind of like them. There is this moment, where I think about a movie I've just watched and think 'yeah, so, it fails the Bechdel test something awful, and it uses every single stereotype it could find, and the hero is a douchebag, and the heroine is a cardboard cutour and not a woman, and the jokes fell so flat they should stand on the backs of elephants who stand on a turtle... and yet! shiny!'

Do you get that, too?

(randomly, where does this whole GQMF idea comes from? Yes, I know what it stands for, but where did the term originate?)
