Juts discussing this with [info]snycock so I thought I'd post about it as I've always thought TS got less credit than it deserved for being pretty good issues-wise.

Amnesty commended TS on their Fool Me Twice episode:

Article found on the excellent Richard Burgi Fan Club page here:

"Amnesty International is delighted to support and commend The Sentinel, and its episode, Fool Me Twice. We appreciate the attention the episode calls to the plight of prisoners of conscience around the world and the message it sends to human rights abusers," said Dr. William F. Schulz, Executive Director of Amnesty International USA. "Hundreds of thousands of men, women and children are imprisoned, tortured or executed each year because they voice their beliefs. This episode of The Sentinel reinforces the critical message that governments must respect, protect and promote the rightsof all people."

"We are happy to reinforce, through the powerful medium of television, the Amnesty International message of the fundamental human right to self determination," says Paul DeMeo, Executive Producer of The Sentinel.

I plan to convert to Judaism after I graduate from college next year. In reading books on conversion and taking a Judaism class for my Religious Studies major, I'm constantly reminded of why I'm converting. There are so many aspects of the religion and culture that I feel a strong connection to. I wanted to share what I love about Judaism in this picspam.

Not that this couldn't have happened elsewhere, but it just seems so very Canadian.

Our friend Steve went to a drivethrough ATM this week, on his way to meet David for drinks. He was thinking about stuff and absentmindedly drove off leaving his cash in the machine. A few miles down the road, it hit him and he turned around and went back, assuming he'd need to withdraw more.

The man in the line behind him had seen the money, realized what had happened, picked it up, pulled over, and was waiting patiently in the car park for Steve to return so that he could give him the money.

I love that.

Title: The Sum of the Parts
Author: Starfirefic
Characters: Cal, Sophie, Zoe (albeit only in Cal's memories)
Rating: NC-17 for general nastiness and ugliness, language, semi-graphic violence (both consensual and non), and consensual humiliation-play.
Betas: [info]ladym, [info]atatteredrose
Wordcount: Approx 4,000
Spoilers: 2.01 (trust me, like 'A Rock and a Hard Place', it won't make any sense whatsoever unless you've seen the ep)
Summary: "Cal's always known he's not a nice man - he could hardly do his job properly if he was. But he'd liked to think on some level that, on balance, he was at least a good one. Now he's not so sure any more." Or, to be more detailed, this fic explores the same events as 'A Rock and a Hard Place', but from Cal's viewpoint this time. It could be seen as a remix of ARaaHP, but one that looks at how Cal makes himself into the bastard he needs to be in that scene; and the psychological and emotional toll it takes on him to do it (because after watching it, my brain needed to know).
Warnings: PLEASE read the rating and warning info at the top of the clickthrough. This fic deals with stuff that won't be everyone's cup of tea, and may include triggers for some people.

Hi everyone

First-time poster here, bearing the first of two fics I've written based on the scene in 2.01 where Cal's trying to bring RJ out.

Title: A Rock and a Hard Place
Author: [info]starfirefic
Characters: Cal, Gillian, Sophie
Rating: R for general nastiness and a little language (nothing worse than the dialogue from the ep, it should be acknowledged; but to be fair, it's pretty nasty dialogue)
Spoilers: 2.01 (trust me, it won't make a lot of sense unless you've seen the ep)
Warnings: PLEASE read the warnings at the top. This is a fic based on a really not-nice scene, so it's really not a nice fic. If that's not your cup of tea, I do understand.
Summary: What's going through Gillian's head when Cal's on the other side of that door, trying to bring RJ out?

Wow, my third post today! I'm awesome.

Anyway, as I said, I'm done with anime. Everytime I see ANY anime or manga, I get depressed. I'm no longer happy/obsessed/laughing when I see anime/manga. Be it mecha, supernatural, shounen, yaoi, yuri or any other genre there is, it does nothing to me besides making me feel like I can't look at it anymore.

Maybe because I keep seeing big-eyed, long-haired, blushing schoolgirl in short skirts showing off their panties to everyone then hitting everybody for looking at their panties, and clueless, useless, blushing guys who don't know what to do with their crushes on poeple that don't notice them. Or maybe it's becasue of anime like Bakuretsu Hunters, Letter Bee, Green Green, Asura Cryin, Uta Kata, Kaibutsu Oujo, Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito, Mai-Otome, Puni Puni Poemi, Princess Princess, Needless, Princess Lover!, Bakemonogatari, Spice and Wolf and other anime/manga that scare me to death and I don't even want to think about other FIFTY or SIXTY other shitty anime that will propably hunt me 'til my dying day.

Ugh... so many titles and most of them are just so clueless, pointless and I don't see their appeal. Most of them, like the ones that happen in high school are always about romances and shit like that, there's almost always romance in anime. Damn, I want drama, horror, fight, robots, WITHOUT romance in it, but it's SO FUCKING hard to find something. there had to be couples EVERYWHERE. When I find something that seems to be good, I don't like the characters, and when I don't like the characters I don't have a reason to watch. When I think I found something I'd enjoy, the graphic is so terrible that I can't look at it, or the damn thig is without any plot. And most of them are about KIDS. Why the hell there can't be anime about... I dunno... animals? Adults (who look like adults not like a 13 year olds! And behave like an actual adults!)? Or even the anime where women are actually smart and they DON'T do anything to find a boyfriend, damn it. FUCK. I can't find anime/mage that I'd truly like. This is SO fucked up. And the most pissing off/annoying are "new" yaoi/yuri and shounen-ai/shoujo-ai. The new productions are so stupid that I sriously don't know why I even care about them! And poeple like them just because they're boy/boy or girl/girl! _o_ I'm EVEN MORE depressed when i think about it that way.

I'll stay with the anime/manga I read and I enjoyed, and I'll be a fan of them, becasue it's really hard for me to find anime/manga I'd like, but the other? NO MORE.

I'm going to watch movies and TV shows. They don't annoy so much. Damn, I had to get it out of my system.

The awesome malazan comic strip The Sappers by Urb. I love them. Especially the ones about philosophy and timeline (with the suddenly grown up kid) so very malazan problems. And the one about High Mages and the donkey. And I love the rotation of characters - it wouldn't be malazan if somebody has not fallen.

The old time robots picspam on the io9. They so old times they hang out with house gnomes.

I'm always late when it comes to tv shows. I started watching Fringe almost at the end of the first season, and now I'm hooked. Anyway, last week's episode was simply GORGEOUS. Great storyline, beautiful picture, I loved it. And it really made me wonder why I've never picspammed this show before.
