Fanfic exorcism. I need to feel less guilty about my giant fic list so I can concentrate on a) finishing Demons AU, b) writing another part of the 'Set out on a narrow way' verse, c) we'll see.

So, without further ado:

Chuck AU, in which Walt is the Intersect, Ray has excellent taste, Nate is zen, and Brad hates his job and lifeCollapse )

the vampire AU sequelCollapse )

in which Nate might or might not be an Indiana JonesCollapse )

in which Brad pisses off a witch, and they might or not be in the Supernatural universeCollapse )

Have been meaning to do this for a while.

Gathering prompts for ficlets in any of my Brad/Nate verses. Anything goes: Twenty years into the future of Feeling Better Since I've Surrendered, or Brad and Nate stuck on an ice planet in Such Great Heights, or maybe the Academy Awards in A Hundred Different Things.

The only AUs not available for the game are: The superheroes AU of 'Can't climb till you're ready to fall' and 'And I can't let go', because there's a 6000 already written words of a treequel that I need to get back to at some point, and 'The Second of Our Reign' because it's over and done with and also, Cala's as well as mine.

The Brad/Nate tag is probably your best bet here, before Noelia gets off her lazy ass and updates the masterlist ;)

It's a fanfic/sequel exorcism, so help me out and prompt me? :)

Unfortunately ;)

But yeah, figured that this journal hadn't seen an update on the elusive thing called Real Life in a long time.

1. Work. As in, back to.

Classes are slowly starting, students coming back. I have mostly the same groups I had last year: the middle schoolers, the older kids (11-13 year olds), and my favourite group, a bunch of ladies over 60 who are just beyond awesome.

Yesterday I started with a new group, 5 and 6 year olds, and they're unbelievably fun and really, really tiring. Expect some stories when I get to know them better.

(Just one now.
Me: What's your favourite colour?
Ania: Duck.
Me: That's not a colour.
Ania: *disgruntled* Says you.)

2. School. As in, can't live without.

So, got my MA in English Lit and figured well, what do you do with an MA in English?

Apparently, try out for the MA programme in American Studies. Took the exam and got in, and now I'm back to full-time studies. How I'll manage with my job I have NO IDEA but the list of electives is awesome and I already signed up for the History of Women in the US and Canada, and for the American Approach to Warfare and other awesome stuff. Will keep you posted on that.

3. Everything else. As in, I should have some social life but I don't.

See: no time. (There's a party this Saturday, though. So there's that.)

08 July 2010 @ 11:38 am
I am on a greatest non-fiction kick since, well, ever. I don't know, maybe fanfic takes care of my immediate fiction needs and I reach out because of that? Maybe studying literature kills my enjoyment in any novel and I dissect it and overanalyse? Well, whatever the reason, 90% of the books I buy now are non-fiction.

I have went from One Bullet Away to Generation Kill to Making the Corps to Fiasco already, and my bookdepository.com (great site, they don't charge for postage, which is just awesome, because amazon hates me with vengeance) wishlist is full of stuff like Dispatches and Helmet for my Pillow. And, inexplicably, the Complete Idiot's Guides to stuff like the US Constitution and the American Presidency and the Supreme Court. You know what they teach us in Polish schools about US politics and history? Nothing. Well, something about World War II, but the first I've heard about Vietnam War was from Rambo movies. (Although, that even predates my actual schooling. I was seven. My parents had weird views on what constitutes appropriate entertainment for a seven year old girl. It explains a lot, probably.)

Anyway.

I've also stocked up on books on conmen and such (from How to Cheat at Everything to poker tricks), some convergence culture and fandom stuff (Henry Jenkins, mostly, but it went from there), and feminist stuff (most recent: Click and Living Dolls), and I already have a great deal of pop culture guides and such (from Literary Galaxy of Star Trek to Batman and Philosophy to Neptune Noir). And don't even start me on the amount of stuff I have from arthurian scholarship. But that's MA, that's different.

Anyways again.

Recs. Do you have any? As evidenced, I will probably read anything as long as it's interesting or entertaining or useful or useless but fun or related to fannish experience or feminism or well, anything that is random but good. Help me, Obi-Flist Kenobi.

* I am close to being done with school. All the exams and final projects are done, the post-grad in Audiovisual Translation is over with, and all that's left at UJ is my MA thesis defense. I'm super-nervous about this one, but also kind of happy about it. And sad that this is the end.

* Wednesday is my last day at work. Kids are off for holidays already, my adult groups finish on Wednesday.

* I'm starting a course in French on Thursday. Three hours of learning French every day for the whole of July. Because I fail at holidays that are actual, you know, holidays.

* Generation Kill fandom. I don't know how one fandom can be so awesome, but it is. There's no bad fics. No, really. Everything is scary good. I'm reading the same fics over and over again and they just don't get old.

* American Idiot Original Broadway Cast. Stark Sands, how so awesome? Cast, how so fantastic? It's the first cd that survived more than a week in my car and I'm not tired of it yet. 21 Guns OMG.

* Watching Generation Kill. Still. And again.

* True Blood. Watching True Blood goes like this: boring. boring. boring. ERIC! ERIC ILU! boring. ewww. shut up, Bill. boring. boring. ewwww. boring. ERIC! DON'T GO ERIC! boring. boring. PAM! ILU PAM! boring. ...did they just? huh. well. hbo. (ERIC!)

* Leverage is back.

* I have a pile of shiny books that I have been accumulating for ages and didn't have time to read due to: school, work, and school. Soon it will be reading orgy tiem.

* cala_jane and I are almost ready to take over the world. We're just that awesome.

* Generation Kill fic writing. Awesome.
